Cristy Barsky took full advantage of the home green last Saturday and came away victorious in the Autumn Open 9-Ball Tournament at Hood River Billiards.
Barsky, the owner of the establishment, barely outlasted Dan London of White Salmon by a count of 7-6 in the finals.
“Initially, I struggled with my game,” said Barsky, “but once I regained my focus, I played some of my best pool in a long time.”
Barsky was highly complimentary of her competition, and was honored to come out on top.
“Dan’s game has improved exponentially,” she said. “He will be a force to reckon with in the coming years.”
She also spoke highly of Guy Whigham of Trout Lake, Wash., who won the 2001 open tournament at Horsefeathers Brewery and finished third this year.
“Guy is one of the most talented players in the region and is a pleasure to play with,” Barsky said. “He’s a gentleman even when he loses.”
Rounding out the winners were Dennis Wang of The Dalles (fourth) and Rick Kobayashi of Hood River (fifth). Players from as far away as Troutdale stopped by Hood River Billiards for the all-day event, that featured a double-elimination, race-to-seven format.
Barsky said she plans to offer more tournaments like this on a regular basis throughout the year. For more information, either e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org or call 386-2978.
