Table tennis tourney on March 15
The table tennis club at First Baptist Church will hold an all-comers tournament on Saturday, March 15, beginning at 10 a.m. (note date and time change). Five divisions — open, Jr. high/high school, 6th grade and under, 1,250-1,750 and 1,250 and less — will be offered, and the entry fee is $5 for adults and $3 for kids. First matches begin at 10:30 a.m. and the advanced divisions will begin at around noon. Trophies and door prizes will be presented, and the competition will be both local and from Portland. Youth softball meeting tonight at HRV
All parents and coaches involved in youth softball at any level are asked to attend a meeting tonight (March 5) at 7 p.m. in room H-15 at Hood River Valley High School. The purpose of the meeting is to discuss the future of softball in the area. If you have questions, call Phil Hukari at 386-4500.
Learn by Doing track clinic Saturday
The Hood River Valley track coaches, the FCA and Athletes in Action will present the 23rd-annual Learning-by-Doing Track Clinic on Saturday at Henderson Stadium. The all-day clinic begins at 9 a.m. is open to all Oregon and Washington athletes and coaches, and costs $20 per person. Athletes should come prepared to participate in a variety of track activities by wearing appropriate practice gear. Track legends such as Bob Julian, Tim Bright, Julie Bright, Mac Wilkins and two-time Olympian Dave Johnson are just some of the instructors scheduled to be on hand. Ski and snowboard teams at state
The Hood River Valley High School boys and girls ski teams will compete at the state competition Thursday and Friday at Willamette Pass. Giant Slalom on Thursday, slalom on Friday. The Summit Snowboard Team will also compete at state Thursday through Saturday at Mt. Hood Meadows. The four-time defending champs will compete in three events: the half pipe, Boardercross and Slopestyle.
Parkdale/Odell Little League demos
All kids from Parkdale and Odell who have signed up for Little League baseball or softball this spring are asked to turn out to the Mid Valley Elementary school gym this weekend for player demonstrations. All boys and girls 8-12 years-old are invited to attend, and times are as follows. Boys: Saturday 9 a.m. to noon and Sunday from 10:30 to noon. Youth lacrosse starts this week
All kids interested in playing youth lacrosse this spring are asked to turn out to Westside Elementary this week. Starting Monday, grades 6-8 will meet from 3:15-5:15 p.m. on the North Field. Starting Tuesday, grades 3-5 will meet from 3:15-5:15 p.m. on the East Field. Grades 6-8 will meet Monday through Thursday and grades 3-5 will meet Tuesdays and Thursdays throughout the spring. Benefit golf tournament March 16
Indian Creek Golf Course will host a benefit golf tournament for Noah Smith on Sunday, March 16, beginning at 1 p.m. Format is a 9-hole scramble with four-person teams. Cost is $35 per person, which includes greens fees, a shared cart, and a soup/sandwich buffet to follow. A silent auction will begin at noon, prior to the scramble, and continue through dinner. Spring salmon fishing seminar
Join Luhr-Jensen fishing pro Buzz Ramsey on Thursday, March 20, from 6:30-8:30 p.m. for an informative session that will prepare you for the spring salmon run. Learn about fish habits, run forecasts, hot locations, angling techniques and tackle. Class will be held in HRVHS room H-14, and the cost is $15 per person.
