Alden L. “Mac” McNerney, a Parkdale, Ore., resident, died May 11, 2003, at Brookside Manor. He was 90 years of age.
Services will be held on Friday, May 23, 2003, at 1 p.m. at the Parkdale Community Church.
He was born Sept. 17, 1912, in Osborne, Kan., to James and Ethel (Langley) McNerney. He was raised and educated in Osborne County, Kan., graduating from High School in Luray, Kan., in 1930. He then completed teacher training at Fort Hayes State College in Hayes, Kan. In 1932, he and Rosie Fern Gray were married in Osborne.
Mac enjoyed a couple of years as a teacher, teaching first through eighth grades in a one-room schoolhouse. He was the custodian, coach, consultant and music, math, English, etc. teacher. He moved from Kansas to Parkdale, Ore., in 1940 and lived there until moving to Brookside Manor in 2000. Mac had worked as Hardboard Plant Supervisor for Hines Lumber Company and U.S. Plywood and also owned and operated an orchard. His special interests included horses (he considered being a jockey at one time) and cars. He was very mechanical, being able to rebuild almost any car, tractor, etc.
He is survived by his sons, Dr. Jerry McNerney of Wilsonville, Ore.; James McNerney of Vancouver, Wash.; and Steen McNerney of Parkdale, Ore.; daughter Susan Emerald of Sweet Home, Ore.; sister Freda Rogers of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and brothers, Gerald McNerney of Wakeeney, Kan.; Dwight McNerney of Tulsa, Okla.; and Robert McNerney of Napa, Calif. Nine grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren also survive.
His wife, Rosie, preceded him in death in 1989.
Private interment will be at Upper Valley Cemetery in Parkdale.

Hood River resident Gladys Burr Stolhand died Sunday, May 18, 2003, at Hood River Care Center. She was 82 years of age.
A funeral service will be held Thursday, May 22, 2003, at 1 p.m. at Anderson’s Tribute Center with a reception to follow with Interment at Idlewild Cemetery.
Gladys was born Aug. 8, 1920, to William Calvin and Laura Ethel (Lowther) Burr in Inola, Okla. She attended grade school in Inola, Okla., and Claremore, Okla. Gladys then attended high school in Sequoyah, Okla.
In July of 1938, Mrs. Stolhand came to Hood River, where she worked as floor lady for Diamond Fruit at the Cascade Houses.
Gladys enjoyed fishing, painting and tending to her flower garden.
Mrs. Stolhand is survived by her sons Jerry and Jim Stolhand of Hood River, and John Stolhand of Silverdale, Wash., five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Hood River, Ore., resident Jean Miller Perkins died Monday, May 20, 2003, at Columbia Basin Nursing Facility in The Dalles, Ore. Arrangements are pending at Anderson’s Tribute Center, 386-1000.
