JV football loses second straight game
The Hood River Valley JV football team dropped its second straight game last Thursday at Redmond by a score of 60-30. The Eagles are now 3-2 on the season after starting 3-0 with wins over Benson, Summit and Hermiston. A story in the Oct. 8 edition incorrectly stated the Eagles’ record at 3-2 after a 21-8 loss to Bend on Oct. 2. The HRV JV team has only played five games (not six) because it did not face The Dalles in week one. The Eagles will look to get back on track Thursday at home vs. Pendleton.
Summit snowboard meeting Thursday
The Summit Snowboard Team will hold its second informational meeting on Thursday at 6 p.m. at Valley Christian Church in Hood River. Pizza will be served, and team members are asked to return all paperwork at this time. If you have questions, call Cheramy Rovianek at 386-1396.
HR Community Ed planning activities
Hood River School District Community Education is planning an all-day trip to Seahawks Stadium in Seattle on Nov. 2 to watch the Seahawks play the Pittsburgh Steelers. For just $95 per person, the road trip includes a seat on a commercial bus, a reserved seat, and parking costs. Bus will leave at 7 a.m. and return at roughly 9 p.m. To sign up, call 386-2055.
Both recreational and power volleyball leagues are scheduled to start Wednesday at Wy’east Middle School. Both leagues are co-ed, and there is a limit of eight teams. Cost is $60 per team.
An early-morning men’s basketball pick-up game is now going on from 6-7 a.m. on Tuesdays and Thursdays at May Street Elementary. Cost is $15 per month or $2 per day.
HRV baseball to hold golf fundraiser
The Hood River Valley baseball program will be holding a fundraiser for its annual Spring Break trip on Saturday at Hood River Golf and Country Club. Beginning at 10 a.m., the four-man scramble costs $60 per player and includes lunch and all course fees. A silent auction will also be held throughout the day, featuring sports memorabilia and more. Youth basketball tryouts start Oct. 20
The Hood River Youth Basketball Association has announced tryout times and dates for kids in grades 6-8. Times for 6th- grade and 7th-grade girls have changed since the first announcement, so please read carefully. All tryouts will take place at Hood River Valley High School, beginning with 8th-grade boys on Monday, Oct. 20, from 6-8 p.m. in the main gym, and 7th-grade girls in the upper gym. Tryouts for 8th-grade girls will be held Tuesday, Oct. 21, from 6-8 p.m. in the main gym, while 7th-grade boys will meet in the upper gym at the same time. Sixth-grade boys (main gym) and 6th-grade girls (upper gym) will meet Thursday, Oct. 23 from 6-8 p.m. If you have questions about the association, call Phil Vesel or Tracy Norton at 386-4500.
Airtime wrestling sign-up night Oct. 20
The Airtime Wrestling Club will be holding a club sign-up night on Monday, Oct. 20, from 6-7 p.m. in the wrestling room at Hood River Valley High School. Airtime is open to kids in grades 1-8, and practices are set to begin on Thursday, Oct. 23 from 6-7:15 p.m. Coaches are Mark Brown and Bill Van Ek. HRV ski team to host sale Nov. 8-9
The HRV ski team has announced that it will hold its annual Ski Sale on Nov. 8-9 at Westside Elementary. Check in for equipment sellers will be Friday, Nov. 7 from 5-10 p.m. Sale hours will be Nov. 8 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. ($2 admission), and Nov. 9 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Equipment pick-up will be Nov. 9 from 12-3 p.m. The Hood River Valley Ski Team will keep 20 percent of all proceeds from the Ski Sale, and all sales are final.
