The Hood River Valley High School varsity volleyball team put up a good fight Thursday night, at home, against top-ranked Intermountain Conference (IMC) contenders, the Pendleton Buckaroos. Although the Eagles tacked another tough loss onto their league record, the girls deserve credit for playing a great match against the IMC’s second best team.
The first set came down to game-point, Hood River, at 25-24. The Buckaroos stopped the Eagles’ drive, however, and won the set 28-26.
The second set didn’t go as well for Hood River, as they lost momentum early and let Pendleton slip by 25-12.
The third set was intense. The Eagles stepped-up to Pendleton’s challenge and broke out to an early lead. Pendleton held together and took the lead half way through the set. The score then escalated back and forth until Hood River took the set 25-22.
Momentum in the fourth set went back to Pendleton and they took the win 25-17 to close out the match.
