Registration open for Gorge Ride 2011
Friends of the Historic Columbia River Highway fifth annual fundraising Gorge Ride will be held June 11. Registration is now open through GorgeRide.com.
Bicyclists will again ride on the Historic Columbia River Highway from the Gorge Discovery Center to the Historic Columbia River Highway State Trail in Mosier and continue on to the Senator Mark O. Hatfield west trailhead east of Hood River and return. This 38.5-mile trip includes the vista at Rowena Crest, travel through the Mosier Twin Tunnels and a rest stop at historic Mayerdale.

Gorge Paddle Challenge Aug. 20-21
The Columbia Gorge Paddle Challenge, a festival celebrating the sport of stand up paddling, will be Aug. 20-21 at Waterfront Park. The Paddle Challenge will feature a distance downwind race, course race, team relay and a Paddle for the Park fundraiser. There will also be SUP exhibits from many companies and free SUP?lessons.
The CGPC is a World Paddle Association-sanctioned event. There will be a hefty cash purse for the men's and women's elite divisions. The top three finishers in each age class of the open division will be awarded unique event trophies. Overall Waterman and Waterwoman will be awarded to the top male and female finishers in the combined downwind distance race and course race. Gorge United spring soccer starts soon
The Gorge United Soccer, sponsored by Community Education and our local 4-H, will be starting soon. Informal practices are scheduled to begin March 28, with the parent meeting on March 31. This is open to all recreational and competitive players, ages 4 through 19 (pre-K - grade 12). Those participating in the recreational league may also try out for Dynamos if they desire.
All completed registration forms need to be returned to the Community Education office with payment, or parents may also register their student online at www.hrcommunityed.org, but will still need to submit the completed paper registration/waiver form.
