Church news for Dec. 15, 2012

The following churches have announced Advent services:

Tucker Road Baptist Church

Tucker Road Baptist Church, at 1455 Tucker Road in Hood River, will hold a candlelight service Dec. 24 at 7 p.m. All are welcome to attend.

Valley Christian Church

Hood River Valley Christian Church invites friends and the community to Advent and Christmas services. The church is located at 975 Indian Creek Road; 541-386-2608; www.hood-rivervalleychristian-church.com.

n Dec. 16 — A special inter-generational Sunday School, 9:30 a.m.

n Dec. 16 — Third Sunday in Advent, 10:30 a.m.: “Joy”

n Dec. 21 — “Blue Christmas” service, 7 p.m.: A safe place to bring grief and disappointment in a season of joy.

Christmas is not always merry and the socially expected happiness is sometimes mingled with pain and tears. On Dec. 21, the day with the most darkness and least light, the church will meet together for a worship service. For this service it will be all right to cry and to say aloud what lies heavy upon our hearts.

In the midst of the darkness we will look for the light which the darkness cannot overcome. Everyone is invited: those who are hurting and those who are willing to stand with them. Childcare will be provided.

n Dec. 23 — Fourth Sunday in Advent, 10:30 a.m.: “Love”.

n Dec. 24 — Christmas Eve, 7 p.m. special family worship geared for children; 10 p.m. candlelight Communion service.

n Dec. 30 — A carol singing service.

Riverside Community Church

The final advent concert, like the others, begins at noon and is free of charge:

Friday, Dec. 21 — Tim Mayer will perform.

Pine Grove-Odell Methodist

The Pine Grove-Odell United Methodist Church will host a Christmas Eve service on Monday, Dec. 24, at 4 p.m. at the Pine Grove Church. Ron Newberger will provide special guitar music for the service. Church members urge you to join them for the story of Christmas and all the great music.

Pillar Bible Fellowship

Pastor Ben Bronson invites the community to join the Pillar Bible Fellowship in a special series for the four weeks of Advent, titled “Seeing Christmas Clearly.” The church started meeting in late 2011 and began Sunday services on Easter this year.

The group meets at 9:45 a.m. Sunday mornings at Mid Valley Elementary School, 3686 Davis Drive in Odell, in its new cafeteria.
