Christmas in Bickleton, Wash., in 2008. My brothers Peter and Matthew came to Bickleton from Seattle. We had a lot of snow that year. Fifteen foot drifts closed our town down: no one could get in or out.
The town was basically shut down for two weeks. From where we lived, if you looked down the road toward town, it looked white and deserted. We made the Seattle newspaper that year for how much snow had fallen.
All of us went outside and worked on a snow fort in the front yard and built snow caves in the back yard. Tucker was only 6 years old and building the snow caves was a lot of fun for him. Our dog Sadie loved digging in the snow.
We had a fire going in our wood stove and played games of Scattergories and Scrabble. I remember Matthew beat my Mom in a game; I beat my Mom in a game — I usually did!
It was a fun year to be with the whole family.
