The Pacific Power Foundation has awarded a $2,000 grant to The Nature of Words, a Bend, Ore., nonprofit that promotes creative writing for youth, to help support “Words Without Walls,” NOW’s statewide creative writing program for youth.
In addition to its annual literary festival, NOW supports the literary arts and humanities in Oregon with ongoing creative writing programs for young students and adults.
Funding for “Words Without Walls” will allow a creative writing residency to be established in Hood River and 15 other locations for a total of 32 classrooms in Deschutes, Jefferson, Crook, Klamath and Hood River counties receiving writing workshops.
“The Nature of Words fills a gap deep spending cuts have left in education by encouraging students to take part in the literary arts and creative expression,” said Angela Jacobson, Pacific Power regional community manager in a press release.
