The annual Hood River Valley High School Community Work Day on April 15 inspired 65 student participants to give service across the valley.
According to coordinator Wendy Herman, the students raised $2,970.
The money will be divided equally between Heart of Hospice Foundation, Helping Hands Against Violence (related story, page A2), St. Francis House in Odell and the FISH Building Project, set to break ground next year next to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church on Tucker Road.
Next year, CWD will be on Thursday, May 1. and will happen during a regularly scheduled school day, in order to help Community Work Day back to its past involvement levels when more than 600 students participated.
This year’s Work Day was on a day with no school scheduled.
