On Jan. 25, Deputy Travis Paulsen graduated from Basic Police Class 333 at Oregon’s Department of Public Safety Standards and Training, located in Salem.
Paulsen completed 16 weeks of intensive training at the academy and will now finish his field training in Hood River County.
Paulsen was the recipient of the Victor G. Atiyeh award named in honor of the former governor of Oregon.
According to DPSST, “This prestigious award is presented to the outstanding student of each basic class as selected by their fellow students and the academy staff. The winning student selected must display exceptional professionalism by demonstrating an exemplary attitude and outstanding achievement in leadership, academics, health and fitness and survival skills.”
“We are very proud of Deputy Paulsen and pleased to have him back in the community,” said Sheriff Matt English, who was among the attendees at the graduation ceremony.
English went on to say, “We are very excited to work with Travis and fortunate to count such an outstanding individual among our ranks.”
