Cascade Locks The final city recreation program will be Jan. 31 at 5 p.m. at City Hall.
The event will feature a celebration honoring Karen Peck and Pamela Morse, who have operated the program. The public is invited.
Cascade Locks City Council has authorized the closure of the City Recreation Program effective the end of the program on Jan. 31.
According to a statement by Paul Koch, former interim city administrator, “This action comes at the end of an extensive effort on the part of the City to determine a more effective and cost-efficient method to provide services for the community.
“The program will be incorporated with the new community center program to be operated out of the available space at the school in conjunction with Hood River Community Education.”
Koch said the idea for creation of the community center came from the original vision process initiated by the new Downtown Revitalization Committee and approved by the City Council and Port Commission.
In the 2012-13 city budget, the continuation of the program was very limited because of City funding limitations and donations, according to Koch.
