Fall lacrosse for 7/8 boys
Beginning Sept. 5 and running Thursdays through October, Hood River Lacrosse Club coaches encourage all 7th and 8th grade boys to attend off-season lacrosse pick-up games at Westside Elementary School. The games will start at 5 p.m. and are intended to give kids as much playing time as possible. Participants should bring standard protective gear, including mouth guards, and a donation of $20 toward HRLC is suggested. Bowling leagues have openings
The 2013-14 bowling season at Orchard Lanes is just getting started, and it’s not too late to join one of the many leagues available, either as an individual on an existing team or as a new team. Many of the leagues start in the next week or two, so anyone interested should inquire as soon as possible. For information or to sign up, stop by Orchard Lanes or call 541-386-1326.

n Mondays: Industrial League, 7:30 p.m., five-person teams (men)
n Tuesdays: Workshirkers, 10 a.m., four-person teams (women)
n Tuesdays: Mixed, 7:30 p.m., four-person teams (mixed)
n Wednesdays: Seniors, 1:30 p.m., four-person teams (mixed)
n Wednesdays: Fraternal, 7:30 p.m., three-person teams (mixed)
n Thursdays: County, 5:30 p.m., three-person teams (mixed)
n Fridays: Juniors, 4 p.m., two-person teams
Fall tennis program christens new courts
Three-week fall tennis programs for middle school and high school players will run from Sept. 9-27 on the soon-to-be-complete remodeled city tennis courts. The program, designed for kids entering grades 7-12, will include drill and practice Mondays through Wednesdays and Fridays from 3:30-4:45 p.m. and match play Thursdays 3:30-5:30 p.m. The cost is $115 and coaches will be HRVHS coaches Leslie Kerr and Justine Zeigler and assistants. Pass Punt and Kick fundraiser Sept. 7
As a fundraiser to help offset equipment costs for Hood River youth football programs, an evening of friendly competition, followed by a barbecue and football movie fundraiser is scheduled for Sept. 7 at the Hood River Valley High School football field. The NFL Punt, Pass and Kick contests will run from 4-6 p.m. and will be divided into five age groups for kids ages 6-16.
The contest is free, with the fundraising effort afterward, in the form of a barbecue and movie viewing at the same location from 6 p.m. to about 9:30 p.m. No gear is required to participate, and cleats are not allowed. Pre-registration is not required, just show up at the HRVHS field Sept. 7 before 4 p.m. For more information, contact Hood River Community Education Director John Rust at email@example.com.
HRVHS Hall of Fame golf tourney Sept. 21
Set your calendars for the seventh-annual Hood River Valley High School Athletic Hall of Fame fundraiser golf tournament on Sept. 21 at Indian Creek Golf Course. The four-person scramble starts at 8:30 a.m. and is $300 per team of four (or $90 per player), which acts as a fundraiser for the HRVHS athletic department and includes greens fees, cart, lunch and a goodie bag. Prizes will be awarded for longest drive, closest to the pin, top three teams, last team and hole-in-one.

Gorge Kids Tri Sept. 22
The Gorge Kids Triathlon returns to the Hood River Waterfront Park on Sunday, Sept. 22. The event is a fun and safe entry-level triathlon open to all elementary-aged kids. Three separate start waves accommodate kids in grades K-1, 2-3, and 4-5, and are designed to allow kids of varied skill levels to participate. The swim portion is inside the designated swim park; non-swimmers may walk/run through shallow water along the shore. The Hood River Fire Department will provide safety personnel along the swim beach. The bike and run courses are within the park area, which will be closed to traffic.
The entry fee is $20 prior to Sept. 20 and $30 on the day of the event. All participants receive a T-shirt and swag bag and proceeds from the event go to Hood River County elementary schools to enhance physical education programs and promote health and fitness.
Day-of registration opens at 8:30 a.m. and participants should be ready for the opening ceremony and pre-race instructions at 9:45 a.m. by the swim beach. Age group waves will start from there.
