United Way returns with “Evening of Tuscany” on Sept. 19, a benefit to kickoff its 2013 fundraising campaign.
Food, music and silent and live auctions, with prizes including trips to Africa and Italy, are on the menu for the event at the Gorge Room at Best Western Hood River Inn. Several local artists including Mark Nilsson and Peggy Olsson have also donated works for the live auction.
“Tuscany” runs from 5:30 to 10 p.m.; tickets are $75 person.
“This event plays a big, big role in what we do,” said Gordy Sato, United Way board member.
“The coolest thing is that it ‘puts a face on it’,” Sato said of United Way’s campaign to raise funds — the goal this year is an all-time high $200,000 — for agencies throughout the Gorge serving youth, the elderly and the underserved.
Attendees will hear stories of how funds are put to use, in particular the compelling story of one beneficiary, who will be at the event but unidentified.
