Mt. Adams Resource Stewards announces completion of the second Mt. Adams Community Forest purchase — a 284-acre property known as the Pine Flats Forest between Glenwood and Trout Lake.
The property stretches along two miles of the Trout Lake Highway adjacent to Conboy Lake National Wildlife Refuge. The Pine Flats property will be managed for sustainable forestry, public access and education, habitat conservation and other objectives identified through Mt. Adams Resource Stewards work with local communities.
The purchase represents over two years of fundraising efforts, support from the U.S. Forest Service’s Community Forest Program and M.J. Murdock Charitable Trust. Equally as important was the incredible generosity of many community members, friends and supporters of the Mt. Adams Community Forest vision. Mt. Adams Resource Stewards acquired the Mill Pond east of Glenwood in 2011 as the first community forest property.
Mt. Adams Resource Stewards will host a celebration of this milestone achievement at the property off of Refuge Headquarters Road at 4 p.m. on Saturday, Aug. 16. Contact Jay at firstname.lastname@example.org or 364-4110 if planning to attend so enough burgers are on hand.
