HR Lions Foundation awards 2014 grants

Ten community groups receive $68,500 Dec. 9

The Hood River Lions Club Foundation has selected 10 community organizations to share the generosity of an anonymous donor who, 16 years ago, gave the club $2.1 million and requested that the club’s foundation distribute the earnings to Hood River County organizations. This year, the charitable endowment provided the club with about $68,500 to donate. Fourteen non-profit organizations applied for the funds.

“Grant applications are reviewed very thoroughly by a screening committee of eight Hood River Lions,” said Hilda Marin, a co-chair with Beth Flem of this year’s screening committee. Organizations who were not awarded are encouraged to apply again next year, according to Marin.

The organizations who received funds at the Dec. 9 award ceremony at the Hood River Elks Club are:
