Speech and Debate begins its year

On Saturday, Oct. 7 the HRVHS Speech and Debate Team hosted an invitational novice competition. Along with Hood River’s own novice competitors, several other high school teams came to compete in the first tournament of the year.

On Saturday, Oct. 7 the HRVHS Speech and Debate Team hosted an invitational novice competition. Along with Hood River’s own novice competitors, several other high school teams came to compete in the first tournament of the year. Congratulations to Jacob Kaplan for first place in Prose and second in Impromptu, Maggie Bertrand for first in Poetry, Maria Sandoval for third in After Dinner Speaking, Claire Powell for first place in Lincoln Douglas Debate, Lizbeth Carabantes-Martinez for third in Prose, and Max Spears and Tabor Bergh for finaling in Impromptu. Rowan Block from Horizon Christian School also placed second in Poetry. The HRVHS team’s next tournament is at Willamette University on Oct. 20.
