A 15-year-old boy has been arraigned in juvenile court on charges related to causing the Eagle Creek fire, according to a statement by John Sewell, Hood River County District Attorney.

Fire hits hard at Underwood Fruit

A packing line and an estimated 100,000-150,000 boxes of pears were destroyed by Wednesday’s fire at the Underwood Fruit and Warehouse Company in Bingen and officials are scrambling to find a place to finish packing about 1,000 bins of pears.

Fall Gorge on Tap returns to The Dalles

Join Friends of the Columbia Gorge on Oct. 18 for a special presentation on current Columbia Gorge conservation issues and recreation programs. The program will feature four topics: Eagle Creek Wildfire and updates, Gorge Towns to Trails, The Dalles Connection, Preserve the Wonder Land Campaign and the Best Gorge Hikes for Fall Foliage.

Memorial for Dep. Mike Anderson Sunday

A memorial service for Hood River County Sheriff Deputy Mike Anderson will be held Sunday, Oct. 15 at 1:30 p.m. at Hood River Valley High School. The public is invited to attend, and carpooling is recommended as parking will be limited.

KAYAK SHED: Spanning Three Centuries

The old building bridged the downtown enterprises of three centuries. From 19th century blacksmiths through its machine shop era of the early- and mid-1990s, to the wind and water sports of the 20th and 21st century, the Schlosser family-owned Kayak Shed building had served multiple needs for more than 100 years.
