After suffering its fifth loss in a row last Friday night at home to Stevenson by a final score of 66-64, the HRV boys basketball team was back in action at home on Jan. 3 against St. Helens, looking to snap its longest losing streak of the season.
The year 2017 went out with a bang for Jeff Miller and Lynn Spellman, as both notched perfect 300 games in bowling league action at Hood River’s Orchard Lanes.
HRV wrestling went into winter break with impressive performances by both the girls and boys teams.
After a two-game road game stretch, the Horizon boys basketball team was back at home on Dec. 30 as they welcomed Joseph to town.
After a one-point win on the road over Milwaukie on Dec. 22, the girls HRV basketball team traveled to Astoria for the Vince Dulcich Memorial Tournament.

Another year and another state title for the HRV girls water polo team, as well as a state title for HRV skiing highlighted the year in Gorge sports in 2017, but there were many other stories of athletes in the Gorge that caught our attention.
Sports briefs for Dec. 30
After team success versus St. Helens in their home opener and some individual successes, as well as a girls first place finish in the Liberty Tournament last weekend, the HRV boys wrestling team continued their early dominance against Stevenson and the girls against Washougal in the Battle of the Bridge dual meet last week.
The HRV girls basketball team was back in action days later as they traveled to Milwaukie Dec. 22.
The Horizon boys basketball team looks to try and build off its most recent 64-44 road win on Dec. 21 over Echo.
The HRV boys basketball team is not where it wants to be with only five games remaining until it opens Columbia River Conference play against Pendleton.
After a few days off, the Horizon Hawks girls basketball team was back in action on Dec. 21 as they traveled to Echo for their seventh game of the season.
The first half of competition in three leagues concluded at Hood River’s Orchard Lanes last week. In the “what else is new” department, Nobi’s prevailed in the ladies Tuesday Morning Workshirkers league.
