December 14, 1919 - November 27, 2009
Ilene Bibler passed away in her sleep on Nov. 27, 2009. She was born Dec. 14, 1919, to Purly H. and Ina E. Snider in Jay County, Ind.
She grew up on the family farm with her two sisters, and endured the hardship of the loss of the farm during the Great Depression.
In 1937 she married Paul R. Bibler, who had also grown up working on Indiana farms. They moved to Washington, D.C., in 1939, where Ilene worked in a five and dime store to help support Paul as he worked as a fingerprint classifier for the Federal Bureau of Investigation during the daytime and attended Columbus Law School at night.
After Paul graduated in 1942 and became an F.B.I. agent, the couple moved many times, as Paul’s career with the F.B.I. required assignments in Washington, D.C., West Virginia, New York, Indiana, Nebraska, Texas, and finally Seattle, Wash.
During all of these transfers, Ilene handled all the packing and unpacking, new school registrations, etc., to make a comfortable home for Paul and their two sons.
After retirement in 1972, the couple decided to return to their farm roots, purchasing a pear orchard and building a new house near Parkdale, Ore. Ilene helped with finishing of the house as well as the interior decorating.
She was an excellent cook and a fastidious housekeeper. She loved her dogs and cats, and enjoyed working in the flower and vegetable gardens. In the winter, she kept busy with sewing, embroidery, and other craftwork. She also enjoyed traveling with her husband during their retirement.
Ilene was preceded in death by her parents, her two sisters, and her husband, after 61 years of marriage.
She is survived by her sons, Paul Bibler Jr., of Ramer, Ala., and Jerry Bibler, of Portland, Ore.; and by four grandchildren.
An informal memorial service will be held at Parkdale Baptist Church at noon on Sunday, Dec. 6.
A private interment will be held at Idlewilde Cemetery in Hood River.
