Lewis Eldon Baker Sr.

Lewis Eldon Baker Sr., 77, passed away with family by his side in Portland, Ore., after complications from a fall on Dec. 8, 2009.
Lewis moved to the Oregon area in 1966 from Bangor, Maine, to start a new life. He has homes in both Woodland, Wash., and Aurora, Maine.
Lewis was born April 8, 1932, in Clifton, Maine, to Carl Eugene Baker and Bessie Stevens. He grew up in Orrington, Maine, and enjoyed being with his family. He worked in construction as a heavy equipment operator and was proudly in the 701 union for 40 years.
Lewis enjoyed traveling, especially from the West Coast to the East Coast. He also enjoyed building just about everything and could make anything he put his mind to. He was always there to lend a helping hand and offer loving support.
He is survived and will be dearly missed by his companion, Valerie Rush; daughter, Lou-Ellen (Joyce) Wyatt, and her husband, Elmer, of Wilsonville, Ore.; sons Gene Baker and his wife, Teresa, of Gig Harbor, Wash., and Kenneth Baker and his wife, Kristal, of Manchester, Wash.; and step-daughter, Murdiss Porvencher, of East Hartford, Conn.
Five grandchildren: Troy Hill, Trish Hill, Mandi Baker Gast, Reece Baker and Dustin Baker, and eight great-grandchildren also survive.
Lewis took in his brother’s children as his own when his brother died tragically at a young age. He is survived by his nieces and nephew: Jim Baker, Mary, Alice Fowler and her husband, Robert, and Kathy Winchester, along with their children: Mark Fowler, Adam Fowler, Kimmy Fowler, Billy Winchester and Angela Winchester.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father; brother James Baker, sisters Gladys Samson and Louise Byers, son Lewis Baker Jr., wives Phyllis Undewritter, Rosalie Henderson and Alice Lord, and stepson Stephen Ely.
