Ruby “Jean” Jean Trollier
February 17, 1925 - November 8, 2009
Ruby Jean (Leonard) Trollier, 84, died Nov. 8, 2009, from a stroke. She was surrounded by her family during her last days.
Services will be held Saturday, Nov. 21, at 2 p.m. at Anderson’s Tribute Center. Graveside services and interment will follow at Idlewilde Cemetery.
Dennis Leonard will officiate. A gathering at the Hood River Valley Adult Center will follow the cemetery service.
Jean was born Feb. 17, 1925, in Hatch, N.M., to Clarence and Elizabeth (Newmeyer) Leonard. She married Grover Trollier in November 1950.
Her family came to Hood River when she was 1 year old; she lived there mostly until about one year ago, when she moved in with her daughter, Mary Chapman, as primary care giver.
She worked as a waitress, in the Portland shipyard during World War II and then for the Hood River County School District at May Street School as a cook’s assistant. She was an active member of the American Legion Auxiliary for 56 years.
When she retired she started volunteering as an ombudsman and at the Hood River Valley Adult Center. Among the many things that she did were calling bingo, which she loved; heading up drives to get donations; fun bingo games; and working on the cash for trash program and any other program that needed help.
She loved the coast and would be ready to go at any time to hunt for treasures on the beach and feed the seagulls. Around her house she made sure that the birds never went hungry, no matter what time of the year it was.
She would share her love of flowers and the colors it would bring along with all creatures great and small.
She is survived by her four children: Mary Chapman, or Beaverton, Ore., Susan Smith, of Washougal, Wash., James Trollier, of Prineville, Ore., and Barbara Hylton, of Stevenson, Wash.; and grandchildren Shane, Melinda, Gregory, Danielle, Miranda, Jillian, Tyler, Tanya, Jacob, Marc, and Scott. She also was blessed with 20 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Elizabeth Leonard; her husband, Grover Trollier; and her siblings, Opal, Walter and Margaret.
Donations can be made to the Hood River Valley Adult Center or to her funeral fund in care of Anderson’s Tribute Center, 1401 Belmont Ave., Hood River, OR 97031; 541-386-1000.
