Caroline L. Ashby
September 27, 1948 - June 29, 2012
Caroline L. Ashby passed away June 29, 2012, in Hood River, Ore. Caroline was born Sept. 27, 1948, in Omaha, Neb., to Lloyd Samuel and Marylne Vilma (Hedlund) Conley. She grew up in Omaha and in her youth she enjoyed roller skating and collecting her 45s.
She attended grade school and junior high school in Omaha and graduated from Technical High School Class of 1966. The classes that she enjoyed most in high school were Home Ec, English and choir.
On May 1, 1970, Caroline married John Ashby and they made their home in Omaha. After the passing of Lloyd Conley they moved to the Upper Valley Mount Hood area in the summer of 1979. Caroline started to work for Diamond Fruit the following summer.
Her love for children carried with her always with help in school and church. From vacation Bible school to helping with transportation of children from Parkdale to Hood River, her love for children never stopped.
Caroline, John and son, Scott, enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. Some of the best times in her life were spent with her family on the lakes around the mountain and at Seaside, Ore. Her love for Mount Hood was so strong that when she died, she wanted her ashes to be laid to rest on the mountain.
As a floor supervisor for Diamond Fruit she enjoyed her Parkdale Pre-size family and looked forward to seeing them each harvest session. Over the years she was very active in the United Way and helped raise hundreds of dollars for the organization.
After retiring from Diamond Fruit, Caroline and John were both active in the Parkdale Nazarene Church. Her love for the children never stopped and continued even up to the vacation Bible school last month. She was well loved in the community and her involvement with the upper valley will always be remembered.
Caroline is survived and will be greatly missed by her husband, John, at their home in Mount Hood; son, Scott Ashby and his wife, Laura Ashby, of Oregon City, Ore.; grandchild, Christopher Ashby, of Oregon City; and brother, Bob Conley, of Omaha, Neb.
A service to honor Caroline’s life and mourn her passing is planned for 12:30 p.m. Sunday, July 15, at the Parkdale Nazarene Church, 7200 Fourth St. A reception will be held immediately following at the Parkdale Fire Department, on Baseline Road in Parkdale.
