Robert Loyd Shields

Robert Loyd Shields was born June 16, 1934, in Portland, Ore., to Ernest and Dorothy Shields. He passed away May 3, 2012, in Hood River, Ore., at the age of 77.
He attended Benson High School in Portland. He later moved with his family to Seattle, Wash.
In 1957 he moved back to Portland to work for Bud Meadows Pontiac. He married Geraldine Dyde in August 1959.
In 1964 the family was transferred to Seattle to a new Meadows dealership where he was promoted to parts manager. In 1970 Bud Meadows changed to a Ford dealership and the family was moved back to Portland, where he worked until 1978. The family then moved to White Salmon, Wash., where he lived until his death. Bob worked for two years at Bingen Ford and then went to work for Ray Schultens Motors until he retired in 1999.
He built his home in White Salmon, loved to build clocks and work with wood. He enjoyed the outdoors and the snow. He loved his family. He was a kind and gentle man who loved his lord.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Geraldine; daughter Julie Stephens, of Appleton; son Steven, of White Salmon; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister, Jean Bailey, of Oregon City; brother Ernest Shields, of Baker City; and Donald Singleterry, of Everett, Wash.; and eight nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Linda Sprauer, of Salem, Ore.
Services will be held at Gardner Funeral Home, 1270 N. Main, White Salmon, Wash., May 12 at 1 p.m.
