Hood River Cinemas is featuring an independent film this week “Neither Wolf Nor Dog,” a movie based on Portland author Kent Nerburn’s 1994 book, which was a best-selling Native American novel. The movie featured Dave Bald Eagle (above) who was born in a Lakota tipi in 1919 — many historians speculated his grandfather, White Bull, killed General Custer at the Little Bighorn. According to media reports, the movie is competing well with the summer blockbusters, and has even gripped the attention of some pretty famous music folks, including Robert Plant, storied singer of Led Zeppelin. In a recent interview, Nerburn said, “There is a history of our country that we don’t know and a people who we need to understand and hear. I hope this film is a small step toward that learning.” For an interview with Kent Nerburn, see Jim Drake’s Entertainment Blog at www.hoodrivernews.com.
