Ben's Babbles

Rooting with a baby

Over the weekend my wife and I took our eight-month-old to her first college basketball game. Sometimes I get a little hardcore when I root for my favorite teams. I am a big guy with a loud voice, so my criticisms of an absolutely brutal call by a referee sometimes look like this:

The same holds for when I'm cheering something good, like a three-pointer by the home team, except minus the rage face.

About five minutes into the game I realized my old cheering methods simply were not going to work, as it scared my daughter.

I quickly changed up my cheering methods. Now, instead of a yell which could attract a referee's attention from halfway up in the seats, my critiques of calls and cheering for good results for my team sound something like this:

Sure, it took a little getting used to, but my daughter had a good time. Plus I'm not completely hoarse when I return from the game and my wife isn't embarrassed to sit next to me!

I call it a win all the way around.
